Councilman Julian Jones, Moving our Community Forward

My name is Julian Jones and I am running for reelection to the office of Baltimore County Council’s 4th district. The 4th district includes Woodlawn, Randallstown, Woodstock, part of Owings Mills and Reisterstown. I have a proven record of public service and leadership. I am committed to make our community the best community in Maryland.

I promise to bring economic vitality to our community. I have grown tired of carrying my family to other communities to eat and shop because of the lack of economic development in our community.

I will improve our schools, so our children can get the best education possible. Today, Deer Park Middle Magnet and Old Court Middle schools are being reconstituted by the state because of five years of failing test scores. This is totally unacceptable! If you give me your trust, I will become engaged in all of the schools in our community and fight for the necessary changes to ensure our children are getting a quality education so they can succeed in life. I will not wait for the state to fix our schools after five years of failing test scores. Too many of our children have fallen through the cracks in five years. As the current PTA President of Hernwood Elementary school, I have worked tirelessly to improve the quality of education our children receive. Working with children, parents, teacher and administrators, we were able to:

* Secure a new teacher – Thus reducing class sizes.

* Secure 50 new computers so our children can have the tools necessary to learn and excel.

* Raise over a thousand dollars for new books for our children.

* Significantly increase parental involvement in the children’s education.

* Sponsor a significant number of educational events.

As PTA President, I am in the school just about everyday working with children, teachers, parents and administrators to provide our children with the best education possible. I know what it takes to improve our children’s education and I am committed to expand my activism for our children’s education to other schools in the area.

I will also work hand and hand with the Fire and Police Departments to make our community safe. A safe community is paramount to a high quality of life. As a Division Chief in the Fire Department, I have worked along side the Police for 25 years as partners of the public safety community to ensure protection for our friends and family. I am proud to receive the support and endorsement of the Baltimore County Fraternal Order of Police. The police officers know that I will provide the necessary leadership and support to assist them in protecting our community.

Julian Jones is proudly endorsed by the Baltimore County Fraternal Order of Police, The American Federation of Labor, AFL--CIO, The Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, Baltimore County Federation of Public Employees, CASE - School Principals & Administrators, and many Baltimore County Teachers and Firefighters and Delegate Emmett C. Bums.
